  4. OS/ASSIST for DOS is a collection of DOS command line utilities designed to
  5. increase the productivity of both the novice and expert computer user.
  6.  
  7. Installation
  8. ------------
  9.  
  10.   To install OS/ASSIST, follow the steps below.
  11.

  13.   If installing from an installation diskette:
  14.   --------------------------------------------

  16.   1. Insert the OS/ASSIST installation disk into the appropriate drive.
  17.  
  18.   2. From the DOS command line prompt,  type in A:INSTALL.  If using the  B
  19.      drive, substitute A: with B:.
  20.  
  21.   3. Follow  the  directions  for  installing  the  software.  The  install
  22.      program  will  copy  all  needed  files  to  your  system and make the
  23.      required modifications to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

  26.   If performing a manual installation:
  27.   ------------------------------------

  29.   1. Create a directory to hold the OS/ASSIST utilities.   
  30.  
  31.      From the DOS command line prompt, type in MD C:\OSASSIST.
  32.  
  33.   2. Change the current directory to that of the OS/ASSIST directory.  
  34.  
  35.      From the DOS prompt, type in CD C:\OSASSIST.
  36.  
  37.   3. Copy all of the OS/ASSIST files to the OS/ASSIST directory from all of
  38.      the installation diskettes.
  39.  
  40.      From the DOS prompt, type in COPY A:*.* C:\OSASSIST.
  41.  
  42.   4. Extract the utility files from the self extracting archive file.
  43.  
  44.      From the DOS prompt, type in ASSIST.EXE.
  45.  
  46.   5. Extract the help files from the self extracting archive file.
  47.  
  48.      From the DOS prompt, type in OSHELP.EXE.
  49.  
  50.   6. Modify  the DOS  PATH statement  in your  AUTOEXEC.BAT file to include
  51.      the OS/ASSIST directory.  For example, if your current PATH  statement
  52.      is:

  54.                  PATH=C:\;C:\DOS
  55.  
  56.      you would modify it to look as follows:
  57.  
  58.                  PATH=C:\;C:\DOS;C:\OSASSIST
  59.  
  60.   7. Add * one * of the following statements to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file:

  62.                  SET OSASSIST=NOVICE
  63.  
  64.                        (or)
  65.  
  66.                  SET OSASSIST=EXPERT
  67.  
  68.      For more information  on the effects  of this statement,  refer to the
  69.      OS/ASSIST manual.

  72. Printing the Manual
  73. -------------------

  75.   If you would like a hardcopy of the manual, change the current  directory
  76.   to the directory containing the OS/ASSIST utilities and type the command:
  77.  
  78.                 OSMANUAL.BAT
  79.  
  80. Online Manual
  81. -------------

  83.   Included  with  the  OS/ASSIST  utilities  is  an  online  help facility.
  84.   Contained in  the help  facility is  the user  manual, a  troubleshooting
  85.   guide,  and  helpful  hints.   To  access  the  help  facility  once  the
  86.   utilities have been installed, type the following:

  91. Registration Information
  92. ------------------------

  94.   Note that this  is a shareware  product.  As  such, you may  use it on  a
  95.   trial basis  for thirty  days.   After that  time, the  program should be
  96.   registered if you intend  to continue its use.   The registration fee  is
  97.   $14.95 for which you will  receive the latest version plus  free upgrades
  98.   for one year.  The fee is payable to:

  104.   Be  sure  to  specify  your  name,  address,  and  where you obtained the
  105.   utilities when registering.  Also specify  3.5" or 5.25" disk.  An  order
